Staff Accountant - SGLA 36 [EN]

Position Summary
 

This position will interact with individuals throughout the division and the regional offices to support the analysis and reporting of financial activity and operating results. The individual will also be responsible for providing a high level of service to our field offices and clients.

 

Major Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
 

  • Work with the Product Line Accountants, Actuarial Dept & Operations Dept to ensure accurate transfer of financial information.
  • Learn both operational and accounting systems and the flow of accounting transactions through the systems
  • Participate in month-end and quarter-end closing process.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly journal entries & related maintenance.
  • Perform analysis as required to understand entries to general ledger.
  • Perform account reconciliations for quarterly audit binders.
  • Assist with managing and resolving complex business issues and problems through research and interaction with internal departments.  Communicate status and ramifications of issues effectively throughout the organization.
  • Drive process improvements and documentation of new procedures and controls in compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley requirements.
  • Participation in operational, accounting and organizational training.
  • Produce ad-hoc reports for management and other members of the organization as needed.
  • May perform other duties as required.

 

Experience and Education (Minimum Requirements)
 

  • 0-3 years of accounting experience (Salary and responsibilities commensurate with experience).
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or equivalent combination of education & experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP and IFRS), updating ledger accounts, reconciliation’s & accounts payable and receivable processes
  • Demonstrated analytical skills; must be extremely detail oriented & effective in production-oriented environment; must be able to draw appropriate conclusions
  • Demonstrated ability to produce a high quality work product; commitment to accuracy and excellence
  • Strong problem solving ability.
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills. 
  • Strong work ethic; commitment to accuracy and excellence
  • Accountability and dependability; consistently takes ownership and gets the job done
  • Ability to balance numerous priorities & deadlines while maintaining professionalism at all times.
  • Must be able to work effectively, independently, and as part of a team.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Ability to work extended hours as necessary, particularly at quarter-end.
  • Regular attendance is a minimum requirement of this role.
  • Highly motivated/self-starter.
  • Ability to Handle Multiple Priorities/Detail Oriented with High Degree of AccuracyBachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent experience.
